Have you just passed your driving test? A lot of car hire companies ask for a minimum of 1 year’s qualified driving experience before they’ll let you hire a car from them. The issue is, of course, insurance.

The word on the street, though (or should I say the Web?), is that some companies will accept older drivers who have just passed their tests. Ring around… you may be in luck. And if you find a company that will hire you a car, come back here and let us know!

  2. most car hire companies are indeed reluctant to rent a car when you do not have a minimum of one year driving experience (and a minimum age of 21 years, in many cases and depending on the vehicle type even up to 25 years).

Most multinational car hire companies charge a young driver surcharge if you are under 25 years old, sometimes as much as 10-15 euros per rental day !!
